After fans begged for it, Frito-Lay brought back the cult classic Doritos 3D—a snack that adds a new dimension to the iconic triangular chip. We decided to bring this extra dimension to life with a Super Bowl spot starring Matthew McConaughey, who plays what might just be the weirdest role of his career—that of a 2D man living in a 3D world. Meet Flat Matthew.

Directed by Academy Award winner Damien Chazelle, the spot imagines a world where McConaughey wakes up to find that he’s a paper-thin version of himself. This newfound flatness adds challenges to every part of the star’s day, whether he’s walking his dog or meeting celebrities such as Jimmy Kimmel and Mindy Kaling on live TV. The only way out of this 2D conundrum? Doritos 3D, of course. We also allowed the entire world to experience life in 2D by creating the first-ever TikTok filter that turns people flat. On Snapchat fans were able to use AR to become part of the spot and even buy the product straight from a virtual vending machine.

    Released: February 2021

It’s time we dispel the myth – rock stars are simply born into the spotlight. Today’s rock stars put in their hours and their passion to do the thing they love. And, it doesn’t matter if it’s skateboarding, gaming, or activism because Rockstar Energy will help fuel your hustle.

In their first-ever Super Bowl commercial, we follow the spotlight as it reveals some of the real rock stars in the world focused on their grind. We travel from the stage to the streets discovering stars like Apple Music’s Artist of the Year Lil Baby, skater Chris Joslin, designer Zerina Akers, gamer Nadeshot as well as a squad of real people with real hustles.

Shot by the multi-Grammy awarded director Dave Meyers, the film brings a fresh and aspirational look to the energy drink category without losing any bit of the spirit that leaves you wanting to conquer your craft.

Not a Gun

Fear can make you see crazy things. Like a gun. That’s a sad truth for black Americans, who are three times more likely than white people to be killed by police. To raise awareness of this issue and to offer a solution, we partnered with Courageous Conversation Global Foundation, to launch the “Not a Gun” campaign.

Inspired by real cases, the 360-campaign includes an outdoor and print portion that re-imagines products such as candy bars and cell phones in the hands of people of color, re-labeling them to say “Not a Gun.”

In addition, we produced a film that follows a black man ordering a candy bar, just like his white counterparts. But instead of being handed candy, he’s handed a gun. The film highlights the disturbing issue of unconscious bias against people of color in situations where firearms are presumed to be present.

The work all leads to NotAGun.org, where people can sign a petition calling for more de-escalation training in police departments, as well calling for them to take unconscious-bias training administered by CCGF.

Please visit NotAGun.org to help everyone get home safe.
