  • App: 911 Moment of Reflection

On September 11, 2015, GS&P launched the mobile app “9:11 Moment of Reflection,” designed to turn the painful memories of 9/11 into something positive.

Creative director Adam Reeves and senior art director Carlo Barreto, both former New Yorkers, came up with the app. “While we were at lunch after a rather challenging morning at work, we started to talk about how we overcome challenges in life” said Barreto. “We wanted to share what helps us deal,” added Reeves, “specifically around the tragedy of one of the cities we both love and have strong ties to.”

Barreto illustrated the entire project himself, and the app was the built by the agency’s BETA Group. Similar to how some people make a wish at 11:11, the app leverages the two times that 9:11 appears on the clock daily and turns them into a moment of peaceful reflection, with musing tones, elegant animation and inspirational quotes about forgiveness and unity.

While the app is downloadable for free, it provides a donation link to the Newseum in Washington, DC, where a permanent exhibition honors the brave journalists who covered the 9/11 attacks.

GSP Bolsters Creative Department

November 5, 2015
  • GOODBY SILVERSTEIN & PARTNERS PROMOTES TWO TO CREATIVE DIRECTOR

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 5, 2015)—Goodby Silverstein & Partners has bolstered their creative department by promoting Patrick Knowlton and Jon Wolanske each to creative director.

Since joining the agency in 2010, Patrick Knowlton has played an integral role in creating some of the most award-winning work the agency has created in recent years. For Adobe, Patrick oversaw both the release of a new antibullying emoji, which is part of the “I Am a Witness” campaign (#IAmAWitness), and the Emmy-nominated “Dream On,” which celebrates 25 years of Photoshop. Working with his partner, creative director and associate partner Will Elliott, Knowlton will continue to help lead the charge on the Adobe account as well as oversee work for Cisco.

Jon Wolanske joined GS&P in 2007 as a junior copywriter. The one-time anchor of an agency TV show, he’s now responsible for creative on the SONIC Drive-In account, which recently released the Kevin Durant spots, “Focus,” and “Pep Talk.” Jon also manages work for Frito-Lay’s TOSTITOS and CHEETOS brands, for the latter of which he was instrumental in devising the “Chesterforchester.com” campaign. Prior to his work on Frito-Lay and SONIC, Jon helped create campaigns for Doritos, Netflix, the California Milk Processor Board (“got milk?”), Sprint, Emerald Nuts and Pop Secret.

“Patrick and Jon bring just the right amount of art, humor and intelligence to the creative department here at GS&P,” said Margaret Johnson, GS&P executive creative director and partner. “Their range of talents at the creative-director level will be something everybody—clients and the agency—will benefit from.”
